Q&A with Fellows from CDC’s Public Health Law Fellowship

Read about how four fellows will use public health law in their career

Achieving health equity requires all people — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identification, disability, socioeconomic status, or other societal constructs — to have fair access to the resources needed to achieve their highest potential for good health and wellness. One avenue toward health equity in the United States is a program designed to strengthen the public health law workforce, increase diversity within the field, and prepare the next generation of public health law professionals.

In 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in partnership with ChangeLab Solutions, launched the Public Health Law Fellowship. Current students and recent graduates from MPH, DrPH, MPA, PhD, and JD programs across the country receive on-the-job training for careers in public health law and policy. The fellows are matched with host sites at CDC; in state, tribal, local, or territorial health departments; or in organizations that support work in the fields of public health law and policy.

We’re excited to share a question-and-answer session with four current fellows. Although their backgrounds and interests are varied, their desire to advance health equity is clear.
