ChangeLab Solutions’ Erik Calloway, Tina Ansong, and Jessica Nguyen have co-authored an article, Improving Public Health and Equity Through Climate Change Mitigation Planning, which was recently published in the American Planning Association’s PAS Memo series.

Staff members from ChangeLab Solutions and the Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention partnered to examine the evidence-based connections between climate change mitigation, health, and health equity. The research team also reviewed existing climate action plans (CAPs) from across the United States and interviewed planners and public health professionals who contributed to those CAPs.

The article shares insights from that research to help planners better connect health and health equity with planning efforts to mitigate climate change. The authors also offer actionable recommendations on how planners can promote public health and health equity and make CAPs more responsive to community needs.

Read the full article to learn more about strategies that planners in state and local governments can use to create plans that reduce climate change impacts while improving health outcomes for the communities they serve.
