Safe Routes to School initiatives are increasing children’s physical activity across the country, making it safer and easier for kids to walk and bicycle to school.

Children in rural communities often miss out on the health and academic benefits that Safe Routes to School initiatives bring. But Safe Routes to School programs can flourish in these communities, particularly when school districts embrace techniques that are tailored for rural areas.

ChangeLab Solutions, in collaboration with CA4Health, developed this fact sheet to call out specific approaches and tools that may be of particular assistance to rural schools.
