The Search for a New CEO Begins!

May 2, 2018

ChangeLab Solutions seeks a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Since its founding in 1996, ChangeLab Solutions has played a major role in transforming public health practice through its dynamic inter-sectoral approach to policy, systems, and environmental change. ChangeLab Solutions has driven major successes on a range of critical public health issues, including its development of anti-tobacco policies that helped California save $134 billion in health care costs and whose widespread adoption contributed to a 25% drop in tobacco-related deaths. ChangeLab Solutions promotes an “equity first” approach with a focus on structural inequalities—such as racial injustice and economic dislocation— that drive poor health in communities across the nation.

Based in Oakland, California, ChangeLab Solutions has an operating budget of nearly $10 million and is led by a national board of directors. Its multidisciplinary staff of nearly 60 specializes in law, public health, land use planning, housing, transportation, education, parks, economics, government finance, and more.

Under the leadership of Marice Ashe, ChangeLab Solutions’ founder and CEO, the organization has contributed major innovations to public health practice and is experiencing a period of tremendous growth and opportunity. With her combined skills in public health, law, and policy and her extraordinary relationships across many fields, Marice has built a strong interdisciplinary team that positions ChangeLab Solutions as one of the few organizations that can put practical policy tools to address the social determinants of health directly in the hands of advocates and lawmakers. The organization is now poised to welcome a new CEO who will build on its success and expertise while shaping a new era.

The new CEO will have the opportunity to

  • advance the organization’s national leadership in using the fields of law and policy to address the social determinants of health and create equity;
  • leverage existing tools and strategies to address critical and emerging public health challenges;
  • expand the organization’s funding base;
  • scale ChangeLab Solutions’ work at federal, state, and local levels; and
  • strengthen the design of the organization’s internal infrastructure to support ongoing excellence through a period of organizational growth.
