ChangeLab Solutions Joins Presidential Candidates at Latino Leadership Conference

June 22, 2012

Our staff joined President Obama and Governor Romney this month in Orlando at an annual gathering of the nation’s Latino leadership, the 29th annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO).

ChangeLab Solutions staff Pilar Lorenzana-Campo and Robert Ogilvie presented a session on the use of Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) to promote health in all policies, specifically on projects and policies related to the built environment. HIAs are gaining momentum as a means to address the social and environmental determinants of health. This session introduced policymakers to the appropriate applications, methods, and the challenges involved in this emerging practice.

The conference presents an opportunity for elected officials to meet with colleagues from all levels of government, from local school boards to the President’s cabinet. This year the conference offered five distinct policy tracks: education, health, financial empowerment, civic and political participation, and broadband adoption.
